A good tranlation.
Wonderful insights into the mind of a polymath genius. The demonstrative brilliance of Goethe, in this translation, cannot fail to deeply impress the reader.
well! what can one say about the life of the great Goethe!! enlightening.
have not read much of the book yet, but it arrived in pristine condition.
This version for seems to be, by page 20 so far, without error. The German characters show correctly (such as "Geräms"), and the ae combinations show correctly, too (like with "æsthetic"). The one star review on here seems to not be reviewing the digital copy. This is a great version.
It is an interesting read, full of great insight views of the lives of the People at that time. But I find that Goethe sometimes get's rather wordy and detailed, but ..... That too is a German trait. Hat a man he was. I also read the original, the German version and that somehow is much more coherent, perhaps the translation loses the real feel of his life.
Must read for any fan of Goethe. Unlike Shakespeare (or whoever was the author of those works with Shakespeare's name on them) with Goethe we know practically everything there is to know about the man. This should not be take for granted for even authors who came after Goethe were less disposed to share their personal lives as frankly as Goethe did.
