Clockwork Angel The Infernal Devices Cassandra Clare Books
I have read some amazing series, by some wonderful authors. Most of the time I find that I love one or two of their books, and only a couple of their characters. Then there's Cassandra Clare, who introduces me to a whole new world in her Mortal Instruments Series. She has a whole cast of unique characters that keep me engrossed in the storyline. Now there's Clockwork Angel.Cassandra Clare is brilliant! Not only did Cassie captivate me with her Victorian Era setting (in London) and transport me into a darker world for the Shadow Hunters, but she swept me away with her characters. How can I pick one or two to love, when even the supporting characters are amazing. Before I get into characters and setting, let me just say that you do not need to read The Mortal Instruments series prior to reading Clockwork Angel. Cassie has a talent for introducing a new world for those who haven't read The Mortal Instrument Series. For those who have, you'll find yourself engrossed with an even darker, more dangerous Shadowhunter world.
Set in Victorian Era London, Cassandra opens up a whole new world of danger, action, romance and my favorite, the history of the Shadowhunters and the Institute. I felt like Cassandra had taken me back in time, and I loved her vivid description of 1800's London. Clockwork Angel's setting and the mannerisms from the time are rich in detail, that I felt I was apart of it.
Getting to know Jace and Alec's ancestors was fascinating. I enjoyed seeing some family similarities. Will and Jem will definitely win over the hearts of Cassandra's fans. Where Will is snarky and more complex, with many layers to his character we've yet to know, Jem is the more sensible one. Even he has an air of mystery around him. As much as I love the Jace and Alec scenes in TMI, Will and Jem have won me over. I adored Magnus! I'm looking forward to seeing more of him as the series continues. With a cast of Shadowhunters I adore, there are also some amazing supporting characters whom I fell in love with. I know everyone is anxious to met Will and Jem, but some of my favorite characters are the women in Clockwork Angel. Where Will and Jem provide snark, action and of course charm to the book, the women are tough and stand their ground in a man's world.
Having had a sheltered life, Tessa Gray comes to London to find her brother. She's thrust into a dark world she never thought existed. In finding out more about herself, the ties she has to this world might lead her to the clues she needs in her brother's disappearance. Tessa isn't someone who will sit back and wait for answers, or be told what to do. She's a searcher for truth and knowledge and handles herself and Will quite well. Believe me, Will doesn't seem like the type that many people can handle, except Jem.
Charlotte Branwell runs the Institute, and has taken in Jem, Will and Jessamine. Parentless and with no where else to turn, the Institute is now their home. Charlotte is someone who stands her ground, and she's regarded as a women doing a man's job. I love that she doesn't back down, even under pressure from the Lightwoods, to give up her running of the Institute. Jessamine Lovelace, is such a pain in the hiney sometimes. She lives a life she hates, but what I like about her, is that she knows what she wants and she's not afraid to speak her mind. A character who I think is over looked, is Sophie, a maid in the Institute. She's had a rough life, but she too, is a strong female character. She's someone who I think we'll be seeing more of. I think there's more to her character than we get to know about in Clockwork Angel.
With all the characters Cassandra introduces, never once was I lost. Each character has their own story to tell, and with the ending of Clockwork Angel, I found myself flipping through the extra blank pages just to make sure there wasn't more of the story. Written in true Cassandra Clare fashion, things aren't always what they seem. Filled with twists and turns, and characters who's layers we've just began to unravel, Clockwork Angel will quickly become a fan favorite.

Clockwork Angel The Infernal Devices Cassandra Clare Books Reviews
It has been a very long time since I first read this book. I have read it several times since then, but I have never written a review.
This book is captivating from the very start. Author Cassandra Clare does a fantastic job of world-building, not just the Shadow World, but also the world of London during this time period. I easily find myself transported there.
I love the characters. Tessa is lovable, interesting, and a complete mystery. She loves to read, and often displays her knowledge of great literature. Will is the handsome, brooding warrior… his heart inside a self-built fortress. He, also, is a voracious reader with a nearly photographic memory. He is often quoting lines from literature that fits the situation in which he finds himself. Jem is the Prince Charming who is flawed. He is kind, loving, and caring. He is also the most tragic of the three because of what he endures. These characters are complex, and I find myself easily attached to them. Even the ancillary characters are developing toward a complexity.
The story is full of action, friendship, and a different sort of family. It is also a testament to the politics at work in any organization, even one with a mandate. All of the elements, large and small, make this a story worth reading over and over. The little details draw me in, and make me want to stay with the Shadowhunters in their Institute. This book would make an excellent movie… if the movie follows the feel, facts, and circumstances of the book.
Excellent work. 5 stars
When Did I Buy It?
February 22, 2015 0_0 Didn't realize I bought this book that long ago!
Where Did I Buy It?

10 Things I Loved About This Book
Tessa Gray was a smart girl and didn't allow herself to be pushed around.
Henry. I don't know why...but I love him. I do have a thing for red heads, though. *cough*"Ronald Weasley*cough*
Magnus Bane. As I said before, he's bae, though he's gay.
Jessamine! She was sassy and so much fun!
The plot is fast-paced; this book didn't have any lulls!
The world-building is incredible in this book. You really feel like you're in London and not in an American urban setting (like in the Mortal Instruments).
Jem! I love that they included a diverse character, along with someone that has a disability! Not to mention, he's super adorable!
This book has plot twists I didn't see coming!
The book is a good length; it isn't so long that it becomes a chore to read.
It's part of a series!
10 Things I Didn't Like About This Book
The writing wasn't...tight. For instance, instead of saying "we walked across the street", this book would say "we all had walked across, in a diagonal way, to the other side of the street. I cant remember running into this issue in the early Mortal Instruments books; it was an issue in City of Fallen Angels, though (and part of the reason why I DNF'd it, but I will be re-reading it).
Tessa. I liked her, but she sometimes asked too many questions at the wrong times.
I liked Henry, but he wasn't extremely fleshed out. I'd like to know more about him, other than him being a fudge up the majority of the time.
Charlotte was too young, in my opinion. I'm older than she is and when I see how she tries to assert her authority, I just cringe. It's clear she's in over her head, but here's to hoping she doesn't drown.
Will is Jace. That's an issue, it's like she just took Jace, named him Will, and then threw him into this book. I'm not into it.
The London Institute is so empty...why?
I thought the Silent Brothers never left the City of Bones?
I'm a 5th grade English Language Arts teacher with a Bachelor and Master, but I still struggled with some of the vocabulary in this book. Like, it was too much.
The blurb on the back of this book does NOT coincide with this book; not to me, at least.
The chapters are extremely long; like, as long as 20 pages. I'm not a fan.
Is it a Series or Stand-Alone?
Series, thankfully!
If it's a Series, Am I Reading the Next Book?
Duh, I'm reading the next book. I already own it. *flips hair*
Books It Reminds Me Of
The Mortal Instruments, but that isn't surprising lol.
