Based on the publisher, I was expecting this to be super cheesy, over-the-top, and possibly ridiculous. Well, I was very wrong. I kind of adore Doukasis's Apprentice! Polly's father's company has just been sold to the infamous Damon Doukakis. Polly has been part of this company in some capacity for her entire life and doesn't want to see anyone lose their job. She's prepared to fight for her employees. What she's not prepared for is the attraction between her and the most infuriating man she's ever known. They have a history, and Damon can't seem to move past it as he seeks revenge on Polly's father. But he's also a savy businessman, so he proposes that he and Polly work together for three months.Doukakis's Apprentice did start off a bit uncomfortable for me. I immediately loved Polly with her pink tights and her loyalty. I even liked Damon at first for firing this jerk-off for sexual discrimination. But then he starts becoming a jerk himself and could also have been fired for sexual discrimination and harassment if he weren't the big boss. I just didn't like how he spoke to Polly. I could see where he was coming from in thinking badly about her work ethic, but that's no excuse for any of the comments he made to her. However, Polly doesn't just take it. She gives it right back to him and more! She will not let his man continue to talk down to her, and not just because he's really, really, ridiculously good looking.
Other than the romance, Doukakis's Apprentice also has some great side plots. I loved seeing Polly in action, trying to save the business. She truly cares about the people who work there, and she's dedicated to their creative freedom. Of course, this means that Damon has to learn to loosen up as he spends more time with Polly. Then there's Damon trying to track down his sister who has run off with Polly's father! Shocking! Polly doesn't like their relationship either, but she's accepting of it if that's what makes them happy. Damon, on the other hand, just thinks Polly's family is trouble, since she and his sister were friends in high school and were both expelled.
Doukakis's Apprentice left me with a smile. Polly and Damon's relationship may be the typical enemies to lovers type, but there's plenty of moments that were refreshing. I was cracking up during their "morning after" scene. Polly's reaction is not at all what Damon expected and it completely throws him off! I definitely wouldn't have minded this one being longer and getting more of those kind of silly scenes!

Doukakis Apprentice Sarah Morgan 9780373130214 Books Reviews
Polly Prince is worried about the employees of her father's company. The board of directors has sold out the company to Damon Doukakis, brother of her best friend from boarding school. Polly's father, who takes little interest in the company & dates younger & younger women (sometimes he marries them), has disappeared with his new girlfriend in tow who turns out to be her school mate Arianna & younger sister of Damon! Needless to say, Damon thinks Polly is a lazy, leech who helped drive the company into the ground. Much to his shock she's anything BUT! He's also shocked at his growing attraction to a person he has held in contempt for years. Finally they reach their HEA after a rocky relationship. Very enjoyable book. Just a few typo errors which I'm surprised to find in Ms. Morgan's books!
I hate to admit it, but I'm a fan of this story. Sarah Morgan's done it again. I read the others' reviews about this book and I gave it a shot mostly because it had been so highly rated. I thought it was a good solid book and I have no real big complaints about it, and no real small ones either except one or two that I won't go into because I imagine they would have been explained if she'd gone into his POV towards the end but was just running out of space to do it. The other characters? Well I liked all of them except for dear old dad and even sis would have been ok if she didn't seem so clueless, but whatever, minor details, really (and more of a plot driver than anything else). It's a solid, entertaining book and I actually liked both main characters. Do I wish for something just a tiny bit more that would send it over the edge from like to love? Sure I do, but I'm not sure what that would have been. I wouldn't change the characters or how they dealt with each other and I liked Debbie a lot and Kim the little we saw her or Jenny or... well there's a lot of side characters I liked and I liked that too. Maybe it was the whole wrap up that seemed rushed? Yeah that's probably it. Just another page would have made all the difference in the world. The 'fear' thing too was kind of glossed over slightly and I'd rather have seen them deal with it on a daily basis for a little while or an epilogue. That too would have set it up for another star.
